NAC Translate is a secure, offline voice-to-text solution for professionals. The system is built on Raspberry Pi 5 using open-source AI models. NAC Translate is explicitly designed for privacy-minded users. You data is yours and yours alone. Your conversations and translated transcriptions are never saved or stored. It never needs to be connected to a network or demand software updates when you need it to just work. NAC Translate will always work the same as the day you bought it, and you'll never need to pay recurring fees or subscriptions to use it.
Plug the included HDMI display cable into any 1080p monitor or TV for displaying translated transcriptions on the screen when you're ready to use NAC Translate. Change the display's input to the labelled port of the display (see "setting up" section for a video demonstration). Plug the HDMI cable into the NAC Translate. Use a USB keyboard and mouse for navigating like any regular computer. Use any USB microphone. Then simply plug in the power cable to start it up and everything will launch automatically.
without ever sending your conversations over the internet to be processed in the cloud - the AI models are run directly on your hardware and nothing is ever saved.
For security purposes, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are disabled by default. You own this hardware so you are free to enable wireless connectivity if you wish, but it is ill-advised to ensure you preserve confidentiality. If privacy is of paramount importance to your use case, you need only ensure the physical box is secured to guarantee that it can never leak your personal data.
No subscriptions, recurring payments, additional fees, or rentals; you own the hardware and you can use it without limits or restrictions anywhere you need. It's small and portable too, so it travels with you where ever you land if you have access to USB peripherals and an HDMI display at your destination.
No spam! You'll never receive marketing material or unsolicited contact from us. We'll never bug you to sign up, fill out testimonials, or buy more stuff. You contact information is confidential and never for sale or distribution to third parties.

Once plugged in to the power and after all peripherals are connected (keyboard, mouse, microphone all via USB), the box will boot within a few seconds. It will automatically launch the app ~10 seconds after booting. Simply click "connect" on the top right when you're ready to use the microphone, then hold the spacebar on the keyboard while you speak a sentence into the mic just like a CB radio (avoiding any risk of a hot mic). The app will start translating after you release the spacebar, and will appear on screen in a few seconds. For best results speak clearly and directly one sentence at a time without pauses or background noise. Use the drop-down list of languages to choose the language that you're speaking, and then select the language you'd like to see your speech translated to.
Pressing the "s" key will conveniently "swap" the spoken/translated languages so you can have a conversation back and forth without the hassle of clicking with the mouse every time the speaker changes.
The app runs in a local instance of Chromium web browser. It will launch in fullscreen for ease of use (borderless). You may exit fullscreen by either pressing "F-11" on the keyboard, or holding ESC key. This can be useful to adjust the zoom level on the browser. It is recommended that other settings are not changed to ensure the product performs as expected.
If you're getting the message "No speech detected", and the "status" indicator on the top shows "connected", try clicking "disconnect microphone" and then "connect" again; make sure the USB mic is plugged in; hold the spacebar for a second and the begin to speak one simple sentence before letting go of the spacebar key. Wait a few seconds for the internal AI to process the audio stream you just recorded, then it will transcribe your words and display them on screen.
Other translation services and apps require an internet connection - they send your recorded audio over the internet to be processed on a server, and then send it back to you. This exchange leaves users vulnerable to compromised networks, and risk your private recording being stored in the translation provider's database. Other companies want to use your data (recorded speech in this case) to train their proprietary AI models, meaning your conversation may leak from the AI unexpectedly one day if it trained on your conversation! They can sell other subscription information to advertisers and they'll restrict how many translation requests you're allowed before they charge you even more.
Using online API's provided by similar AI translation services may be intercepted in transit if your local network is compromised (anyone in your home or office clicks on a bad link in an email they receive, for example). Other companies often retain your data too as their customer, leaving you at risk of your details leaking or getting sold to data brokers. The information subscription services collect from you will become the property of any new company who acquires your translation provider, so even if they are dutiful stewarts of you personal details the buyer or new management or shareholders may not be as willing to protect your personal information one day.
You never need to trust another company with your sensitive conversations. You will never need to rely on hope that a translation service provider maintains a code of ethics and scruples over time. Don't jeopardize your professional licenses or your business by allowing another company the opportunity to violate confidentiality agreements you have with your clients. You will always be responsible for securing your clients' sensitive information, there's no need to put your company's life in their hands.
As soon as your recording is finished being transcribed it is completely gone. Nothing is ever saved on your NAC Translate, and nothing is ever transmitted over any networks. Your personal usage isn't "anonymously" gathered or sold behind your back, and you'll never be pestered to update "or else!" the way every other software translation service will do to you.
Companies like Samsung, Amazon, Google, Apple, Meta (fmr. Facebook), and Microsoft, have consistently proven they can't be trusted with your private data. Microsoft even went so far as to embed advertisements in the start menu itself, and it gathers all of your search queries when you're just looking for files on your own private computer!
When your professional license mandates strict adherence to confidentiality, you can be certain that you're trusting companies who are all notorious for violating that trust with all of their customers as a core stream of their annual incomes. No-one should ever force you to update and send telemetry of your usage in order for your property to function as it was designed, intended, and as it worked the first day. No-one should be stealing your private data with intent to sell it to advertisers even if they claim it is "anonymized" because metadata can and will be de-anonymized. "Linkage Attacks" are a statistical cross-referencing exercise, which is precisely how AI's are trained and operate under the hood. Our computers are very good at de-anonymizing individuals using only metadata.
This product is intended for business and professional firms, where privacy is of the utmost concern. Whether you're a professional handling private personal accounts or an attourney who is mandated to maintain client privilege, or a government dignitary, or a journalist, or a doctor, or a travel agent, or church pastor; what ever you do professionally that requires confidentiality in order to operate, you are obligated to use translation services that guaranty security and privacy by design and not simply by trust or lipservice.
Unfortunately, data protection laws haven't yet caught up with the pace of the advertising sector's evolution over the years. As a result, our data is being sold to advertisers by every app, operating system, website via cookies, and even home appliances these days. Identity theft and fraud have never been more rampant. Protect yourself, your business, and your clients, with an app specifically engineered for use in sensitive situations and protected by physical air-gap. If your device isn't connected to a network it is impossible for it to be hacked without being physically accessed by a bad actor.
Don't use just any app or internet service for your personal or professional translation needs. Make sure you do the smart thing and make a one-time investment for a lifetime of unlimited translation services without any monthly bills, artificial limits or constraints, and without annoying up-sells, and don't risk a catastrophic data breach of a giant cloud provider compromising your livlihood or your customers'.
The NAC Translate is completely air-gapped: that means there's no network connection to be hacked, no data to be transmitted to a cloud server where it can be potentially stored or leaked. NAC Translate provides you no risk of any conversation being used to train their large language models (LLMs). If you keep the device physically secured and it is never plugged into a network, it can't be hacked.
All of the AI processing is performed locally on the NAC Translate hardware. It is powered by open-source text-to-speech models and text-to-text translation models, packaged into Docker containers to ensure the app always operates as expected without any surprises. This means that security is guaranteed so long as NAC Translate is never connected to a network or physically tampered with.
Security is always in your hands.
You own the hardware. You are free to use the device as a fully functional computer if you'd like, just like any Raspberry Pi 5. You can use it to play movies or games by simply setting up a separate microSD card and swapping them in the back of the console (or NVMe SSD in the case of the NAC Translate PRO). Just note that we can only guaranty security if you use the device exclusively with storage device provided since the circuit board has firmware that CAN be compromised if it is physically compromised. However, you're not restricting at all how you choose to use your product after you've purchased it. It's your property to do as you wish.
You are buying NAC Translate directly from the sole proprietor of NAC Translate. Kristopher Driver wrote the app and automation scripts himself, and assembles every order by hand before shipping them. All storage drives distributed are like-for-like images, so a burnt out microSD card can simply be replaced if it dies without the expense of purchasing the entire NAC Translate device all over again. Reach out to me for a replacement microSD card and we may even be able to repalce it for free if it doesn't occur too often. Contact kris@krisdriver.com and we'll sort it out together right away.
NAC Translate is ready to use out of the box. Just plug in all of the peripherals (keyboard, mouse, microphone not supplied), then power on and start translating speech to text in the available languages.
No technical expertise required — perfect for all ages and backgrounds regardless of technical proficiency.
The box is pre-configured for ease of use. Once powered on NAC Translate will launch the service for the app's backend AI processing, then it will open a simple web browser window in fullscreen a few seconds later connected to "localhost" (the service that NAC Translate hosts for itself). Without ever being plugged in to ethernet or connecting to Wi-Fi, NAC Translate will serve the app, launch the interface, and run the AI translations all by itself.
If you need a replacement microSD card due to it being lost or damaged, just reach out to me and we'll send you a brand new one for a nominal fee (contact kris@krisdriver.com to sort it out, we may be able to replace it for you for free at our discretion). No need to purchase the entire NAC Translate kit all over again if it's only the microSD card that needs replacing. If you want regular replacements you can order them here.
